There is an increasing demand to meet the needs of the newly organised eight-year system of compulsory education. The Department of Elementary Education was established to train teachers to meet this demand. The main purpose of this department is to train teachers to understand how children learn and develop skills. The department also aims to educate creative, dynamic teachers who are sensitive to human rights and ethics. The Department offers three programs:

• Early Childhood Teaching Program
• Primary Teaching Program
• Elementary Mathematics Teaching Program

Besides becoming teachers and administrators in schools or academicians in universities, the graduates of the department can be employed as consultants and producers of children's programs on television and radio.
